Note from Victoria Clark Swanigan:

There were several Hiram Clark's in the 1800's, to correctly identify the correct Hiram Clark, took time and critical thinking.  I entered a father with no first names, only Clark as a surname, for Hiram. I then added Ellen Clark Nickel (1816-1873), William Clark (1812-1876), and Elizabeth Clark Runyan (1808-1877) as siblings of Hiram Clark (1820-1879); all of whom my grandfather, my mother, and myself had 20+ shared DNA matches through Ancestry ThruLines. Once I was certain that this Hiram Clark was correct, I went to work studying probate records, marriage records, obituaries, and any available written record until I identified the parents of Hiram and his suspected siblings. My discovery led me to Samuel and Margaret Hosack Clark.  A DNA match, of my grandfather, my mother, and myself, Christopher Guinn, is a descendant of Hiram's sister Ellen.  Guinn and I have corresponded via email and Ancestry messenger working through this enigma. Guinn also had a Samuel and Margaret Clark listed as Ellen and Hiram's parents.  Originally, we believed Margaret to have been the daughter of Robert Clark.  Though, using Ancestry ThruLines and probate records, I discovered that Robert's son, Samuel, married a woman name Margaret Hosack.

Guinn wrote a biography on the numerous Hiram Clark's in the 1800's, titled "So Many Hiram Clarks".  This writing spurred my curiosity, and led me to this discovery.

You can view Guinn's biography here.

I have not had any verified descendants of John and Lucy Tafliss Clark as DNA matches to either my grandfather, my mother, or myself.  The dates and locations of these individuals don't line up with my Hiram Clark ancestor.  Hiram is my grandfather's great-grandfather.
